Senior Design Project Manager

Our client, a well-respected construction and engineering design firm, is seeking a Senior Design Project Manager to join their team full-time. In this role, you will serve as the Engineer of Record, providing strong technical leadership and direction to ensure the successful delivery of complex building design projects.

As the Senior Design Project Manager, you will act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and all project stakeholders. You will lead a multidisciplinary design team including in-house experts in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural lighting, and technology systems as well as manage coordination with external sub-consultants such as architects, structural engineers, and civil engineers.

The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $180,000, depending on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Lead and oversee project design teams throughout all phases of project delivery.
  • Coordinate building design efforts, evaluations, and technical studies across disciplines.
  • Perform quality control reviews of designs prepared by internal teams and external partners.
  • Manage and document design changes to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Assemble and coordinate team proposals, including cost estimates for in-house engineering services.
  • Oversee contract administration, project scheduling, and cost management.
  • Establish and manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Monitor timelines, expenditures, and milestones; report progress to clients and internal management.
  • Organize and lead project kickoff meetings, design coordination meetings, and design reviews.
  • Ensure tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the client, maintaining strong and proactive communication.
  • Collaborate and communicate with colleagues across disciplines to ensure cohesive project execution.
  • Coordinate with municipalities and contractor teams for permitting and construction activities.
  • Ensure all contracted responsibilities are fulfilled; prepare additional service requests when necessary.
  • Build and maintain client relationships through responsive communication and proactive issue resolution.
  • Provide oversight, support, and mentorship to project staff.
  • Able to work onsite in construction environments as needed.
  • Schedule and lead construction site walkthroughs and team meetings.
  • Ensure projects meet client-defined performance and quality standards.
  • Capable of managing a team of Project Managers and Administrators across multiple large, fast-paced projects for a single client.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Proven track record as a self-directed, proactive, and highly motivated team leader with strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong working knowledge of building codes, engineering standards, and construction processes.
  • High attention to detail with a proven ability to identify errors and implement corrective actions efficiently.
  • Demonstrated mathematical accuracy and analytical skills relevant to technical project management and design.
  • 10+ years of experience in large-scale design and construction projects.
  • 5+ years of experience managing complex technical projects, such as mission-critical facilities, cleanrooms, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with hyperscale data center projects is highly desirable.
  • 10–20 years of experience working with a design-build contractor or consulting engineering firm, including significant experience in a leadership role.
  • High proficiency in industry-standard tools and platforms, including:
    • Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat
    • Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam
    • SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), and Procore
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field — or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Architectural License (AIA) preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • LEED Accreditation and/or WELL Certification is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
  • Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
