Business Systems Analyst

Our client, an organization in the shipping industry is looking for a talented Business Systems Analyst to join their team on a full-time basis in Oakland, CA.  Ideal candidates will have experience planning and directing program design, development, and systems analysis for all computer applications programming.  

  • Work cross-functionally with product teams and internal stakeholders to collect business requirements
  • Plan, document, and execute successful implementation of database projects and applications.
  • Translate business requirements into database design, which will require in-depth knowledge of analysis methodologies including relational database designs and application security techniques.
  • Write clear and technical specs for development and programming requests.
  • Assists in determining the correct prioritization, and due dates and track all programming requests.
  • Retrieve and understand data and data models to create effective database designs.
  • Responsible for planning, tracking, and evaluating project tasks from design to deployment.
  • Improve procedures, documentation, and knowledge sharing throughout the organization.
  • Produce and maintain technical designs and documentation relevant to assigned programming tasks
  • Interact with QA to conscientiously identify and fix software bugs in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of SQL is a must.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a position with similar types of responsibilities in an Information Technology department is a must.
  • Knowledge of business and systems, analysis, design and development with experience in a broad range of skills needed to support current business applications.
  • Knowledge of analysis methodologies, relational database design (entity-relationship diagram), and applications security methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the following computer Operating Systems: Windows, UNIX or Linux
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to interpret user requirements into functional and technical specifications, with their corresponding documentation.
  • Knowledge of analytical skills such as analysis and business applications design and relational Data Modeling and database design
  • Working knowledge MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) and graphics software programs required.
  • Customer Service oriented individual with strong people skills to support internal and external customers.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with an emphasis in computer science is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of programming skills such as Relational Databases, SQL (Structured Query Language) to perform data analysis, PL/SQL to build Oracle packages, triggers, and other objects.                            
  • Experience working with the Oracle database is a plus
  • Programming skills Java or Oracle development tools is a plus
  • Must be able to work and sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to crouch, bend and reach on a daily basis.
