Senior Electrical Engineer

Our client, a distinguished construction and engineering design firm, is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their team on a full time basis in San Francisco, CA.  Ideal candidates will have experience working with Lead Project Engineers or Project Managers on a variety of projects, from small to large scale and be able to provide a high-level of technical leadership. This individual will represent the firm in all project communications with clients, contractors, architects, and other project team members and may take on a project management role in small to medium projects.  This role is onsite in San Francisco, CA and the salary is $110,000 - $135,000.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Lead and perform electrical system designs using current engineering software and design tools.
  • Conduct detailed engineering analyses, including voltage drop, short-circuit, breaker coordination, and Arc Flash studies.
  • Perform equipment sizing, including overcurrent protection devices, feeder calculations, and specifying electrical equipment (e.g., UPS systems, switchboards, transformers).
  • Design emergency and standby power systems, including generators, ATS, MTS, and compliance with NEC Articles 700, 701, and 702.
  • Utilize Title 24 Compliance Software (EnergyPro) and COMCheck for validating energy compliance on lighting and electrical systems.
  • Design electrical room layouts and coordinate detailed system layouts across a variety of sectors, including commercial, life sciences, data centers, and healthcare (OSHPD).
  • Participate in client presentations and manage client relationships, serving as a primary point of contact when required.
  • Prepare and manage project scopes, budgets, and schedules, ensuring alignment with client goals and contract requirements.
  • Coordinate and lead internal design team meetings, ensuring all disciplines are aligned on project goals and deliverables.
  • Implement and enforce quality assurance processes, including design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination, and design documentation standards.
  • Conduct life cycle cost analysis and feasibility studies, providing design options and recommendations.
  • Review and approve shop drawings, product data submittals, and ensure compliance with contract specifications.
  • Lead construction site observations, sustainability analyses, and basis of design reports to support design integrity and client needs.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers, ensuring knowledge transfer and team growth.
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships, including post-project follow-up to support ongoing partnerships.
  • Ensure all designs comply with building codes, energy codes, NEC, and LEED standards.
  • Respond promptly to RFIs and manage project deliverables to meet budget and schedule requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of all design elements.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Five to eight years of electrical design experience in building systems.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills, with supervisory experience.
  • Deep knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and construction practices, including NEC and California/local codes.
  • Proficiency in Revit, BIM 360
  • Working knowledge of SKM Power Tools (or similar electrical analysis software).
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and other industry-standard software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with strong client-facing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • LEED and BMS Accreditation highly desirable.
  • Field experience with construction or system installation projects is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
  • Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
