Lead Game Designer

Our client is currently looking for a Lead Game Designer to join their team on a full-time basis, ideally onsite in San Francisco, CA.  We are looking for someone who has direct experience with the design of real-time competitive game mechanics.  In addition to mechanics, this person will have had experience with level design features as well.  The team members are located in many areas, so experience with development in a remote development environment necessary.
We want someone who can make games that are first, highly accessible second, compelling enough to keep the competition element stimulating and thought provoking and third, fair.

  • Drive gameplay with great player controls and engaging level design.
  • Work with the Lead System designer to create engrossing gameplay & features that will improve UX, engagement, and monetization.
  • Convert high-level ideas into comprehensive and well thought-out concepts.
  • Create GDDs, level layouts & clear feature documentation for new games and content.
  • Work with Product, Content leads to implement design concepts.
  • Analyze KPI’s , user testing / feedback, recommend design solutions; work to modify game concepts accordingly.
  • Develop, design & guide the implementation of game content and/or systems with focus on engagement, retention &  monetization

  • Five + years’ experience in game design or as a systems designer
  • Three + years’ experience on a live free-to-play mobile game.
  • Solid experience with competitive multiplayer genres on mobile, console, tabletop & PC
  • Expert knowledge of player controls & level design for competitive games
  • Desire and ability to work with established IP
  • Expert knowledge of  game systems and concepts across a wide spectrum of tech
  • Skilled with analyzing data and translating into actionable tasks
  • Understanding of game balance concepts. This includes statistics, virtual goods, economics & user motivations
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Strong technical skills with an aptitude for math & probability
  • Strong balance, tuning, & polishing skills

  • Some knowledge of Unity, C# and/or Unity3D
  • Proficiency with Excel / Google Sheets
  • Past work with racing, sports and real-world competitive game design ideal
  • Experience with: running live ops for 12 months or more
  • Experience with:  Web3, blockchain & NFT technology
  • Passion for collectibles market

  • May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
  • Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
